Health and Safety Auditing

Monitoring Health and Safety provides information to review activities and decide on performance improvements. Reviews and Audits by your own staff or outsiders, complement your safety monitoring activities by looking to see if your policy, organisation and systems are actually achieving the right results. They can tell you about your systems, wether they are working and if they are effective.

We all learn from our experiences both good and bad.

If we combine the results from measuring our performance with information from health and safery reviews and/or audits you can improve your health and safety management.

Health and Safety Review

Is to examine or assess (something) with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary.

In our reviews we will look at:

  • current policies and procedures
  • an overview of any areas which do not comply with legal requirements
  • identify specific areas of risk
  • look at training requirements
  • All this will be documented in an action plan prioritising the steps to be undertaken

Health and Safety Audits

An Audit is a systematic examination to determine whether activities and related results conform to planned arrangements and whether these arrangements are implemented effectively and are suitable to achieve the organization's policy and objectives.

(BS8800: 1996 Guide to Occupational health and safety management systems)

We can undertake a full health and safety management audit which is a structured process of collecting independent information on the efficiency and effectiveness of your H&S management system.

We can tailor our audits to suit your organisation and requirements, however we aim to cover:

  • Documentation
  • Legal Compliance
  • Setting of Standards
  • If procedures are followed
  • Can procedures be followed
  • The companies safety culture
  • Records
  • Training
  • Safety Knowledge

For example we have under taken an in depth audits at a multi-site company to identify site differences and look at bringing all sites under one safety management systems. This was a thorough audit involving 3 days at each site to develop ta report showing good practices and recommendations for improvement throughout the organisation.

Our Principal Health and Safety Consultant, Dave Oates, is qualified as a BS OHSAS 18001 Management Systems Lead Auditor.
